It’s Saturday afternoon in Venice and the streets are rumbling. Campo San Zaccaria has transformed into a red carpet: camera flashes, grandeur, faces thick with fascination, queues forming in anticipation of a photograph. Mondays are not like this. The campo is tame. The same people who command attention, set aside the ornamented costumes and return to offices, shops, and kitchens.
